AB Usually  caused  by  staphylococcal  exotoxin  associated  with  high-absorbency  tampon  use.  Strep.  pyogenes  can  also  cause  it.  The  rare  syndrome  usually  begins  within  5  days  of  the  onset  of  the  period  and  may  be  related  to  prolonged  retention.
