Sunburn

Treatment

• Aspirin (for pain)

Topical:

• Betamethasone dipropionate 0.05% ointment or cream for unblistered severe cases (early) bd for the first 2–3 days or

• Bicarbonate of soda paste, applied 2 hrly or

• Oily calamine lotion

Prevention

Avoid exposure to summer sunlight 10 am–3 pm (or 11 am–4 pm DST). Use natural shade, beware of reflected light from sand or water and light cloud. Use a sunscreen with a min. of SPF 50. Wear broad-brimmed hats and protective clothing.
